Plantasia – public hothouse in Swansea

The Plantasia is a large public hothouse located in the Parc Tawe retail park, Swansea. It exhibits a wide range of tropical plants and insects. It opened in 1990.

The glasshouse contains three climate zones:

  • Tropical with a rainforest,
  • Arid and a
  • Seasonal Humid Butterfly House.
Plantasia - hothouse in SwanseaThe Plantasia collection includes over 5,000 plants, many of which are extinct from their natural habitat and supporting insect life including ants, fish and reptiles. From insects, reptiles, fish and monkeys to bananas, pineapple plants, prickly cacti and giant bamboo – Plantasia has it all, and is perfect for that unique family day out, no matter what the weather!

Along with the plants, there is . In the butterfly house, butterflies can be seen flying freely and viewed at various stages of development.

Plantasia has been used as a filming location for Doctor Who episodes “The Doctor’s Daughter” and “Cold Blood”

Plantasia is available for children parties and the usual package includes entrance to the hothouse and wildlife room, fantastic party food, a animal mask for each child, room hire for 2 hours and party invitations.

Parents are welcome to bring a birthday cake, music and games to enjoy whilst in the party room.

Plantasia is also a great place for school outings. Children of all ages will enjoy the animal theme trail which takes them around the hothouse, somewhere in the jungle is hidden treasure…
